Michael Tutera

  • CEO of Thrombolex Inc.

Michael Tutera is Chief Executive Officer of Thrombolex, a medical technology company developing therapies for patients with thromboembolic disease, including pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. He has more than 20 years of leadership experience in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries, with a focus on commercial strategy, market access, and reimbursement.

Before Thrombolex, Michael held senior executive roles at Nalu Medical, Medtronic, Intersect ENT, Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, and Forest Laboratories. He has led multiple product launches, built commercial and market access teams, and helped guide Intersect ENT through its acquisition by Medtronic and Nalu Medical through its acquisition by Boston Scientific.

Michael earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1999. Much of his career has applied that training directly: how new technologies are priced, how payers decide what to cover, and how to build markets that work for patients, providers, and payers alike.

A native of the Pittsburgh region, Michael is passionate about leadership development, mentorship, and sharing practical business insights with the next generation of students and professionals. He is honored to serve on the department’s advisory board and to help strengthen the connection between academic learning and real-world business leadership.
