Marily Nixon, J.D.

Marily Nixon is a Professor of the Practice at Pitt Law. She teaches primarily at the confluence of environmental law and social justice.  Currently, she teaches Environmental Justice Law in the Law School, as well as courses in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences (Property Rights, Environment, and Social Justice; and Environmental Law and Policy).  Prior to teaching at Pitt Law, Professor Nixon taught at the University of Richmond, and she continues to direct and teach the Summer Institute on Law, Language and Culture at Duke University School of Law.  Prior to beginning her teaching career, Professor Nixon worked for more than 20 years with leading national and regional nonprofit environmental groups, local and federal government, a large philanthropic foundation, and large private law firms. Her areas of expertise include environmental law, climate change, natural resources law, public lands law, land use law, local government/administrative law, and teaching law and legal culture to international attorneys.

Professor Nixon is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Colorado.  She is also admitted in North Carolina (inactive). Professor Nixon received her JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a member of the Virginia Law Review, and received her BA from Duke University
